Merak Mail Server behind Netgear DG834G ADSL Router/Firewall

I have a little problem that may well have a simple solution that I'm too dumb to figure out after banging my head on it for so long...

We are trying to set up a mail server in a home office. Configuration #1 below works just fine; Configuration #2 gives "(reason: 550 5.7.1 Invalid email address or relaying denied)" errors...

Configuration #1
----------------

ISP-->
Creative Modem-->
Windows box with static IP (12.32.44.181)and Merak server

mail to accounts at this IP work well

Configuration #2
----------------

ISP-->
Netgear DG834G ADSL Router/Firewall (IP 12.32.44.181) -->
Windows box and Merak Server (IP 192.168.0.130)

mail to same accounts on windows box now gives error with either 192.168.0.130 as DMZ or all port trafic on router sent to 192.168.0.130.

Please point me to the appropriate page in the 'fine' manual
