I've got a really weird problem. When I click on a menu option, like File or Edit, nothing appears! However, if I hold the mouse button and move down, I can see the options. Same thing happens if I right click on something. Nothing is displayed until I hold and drag.

The real weird thing is if I move from say, File to Edit, the options all appear as if nothing had happened!

Anyone know how to fix this? It's really annoying.

Sounds like your clicks aren't registering. Short term fix: use the ALT key and keyboard navigation. Long term fix: try a different mouse.

The clicks are registering, because if I hold the button and drag the options appear one by one. For example, if I right click on the desktop, I see nothing, but if I drag, then I start seeing Active Desktop, then Arrange Icons, Line Up Icons, etc as I drag down. However, there's no menu background either, so basically it's a floating list of menu options that you can click.

Mice die. When in agony they doo strange things. You might want to shove a USB mouse in to see what happens before you go any further.

One of our computers is named "fluffy" for it's mouse appetite.

It's not the mouse. It's definitely an OS setting because I've had it happen on other PCs than this particular one.

For now, the problem has gone away with no real answer. It's definitely an OS thing, and we thought it had something to do with active desktop, but that's not turned on.

For now the system works, so if it ain't broke, I ain't gonna fix it!

I have two suggestions. I have seen weird things like this with memory problems. Check to see what all is running. Chances are this isn't the problem.

My second suggestions is check the screen resolution. I don't know why, but when I have had computers set to True Colors or 24 bit color I had weird problems like this. Try bumping it down and see what happens.
