Menu effects

Hello

This is a menu I have done here:

As you will see it is only quite basic and I wish to improve it with some nice border effects such as we see here:

There are borders between menu items and they change colour on mouseover. Also the fly-out border (the submenu) looks quite impressive on mouseover.

How might I learn how to incorporate these border effects into my own basic menu?

I would suggest you study the css of the second menu. Although, seeing that it is not the best designed menu, it would be better if you would mimic the ones that are more professionally written. Why don't you check if you fancy anything from here:

I'm not quite sure what your real question is. You presumably own the site (since your work is on it), and so have access to both pieces of source code. So... why don't you simply use the latter menu instead of the former?
