Hi ALL

How can i check what memeory i have installed on my solaris box

Also We are in the process of ordering new memory. is there a way without taking the back off the server to see how many slots are free!!

And is it simply a case of just plugging it in just like u do on a PC. Meaning there are no post installation tasks that need to be carried out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!

Simon

You have to use prtdiag, to find out how much memory you have and what slots you have spare..

/usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/prtdiag -v | more

Note: in the platform directory you need to know which "platform" your machine is on, type uname -a to find out..

Thanks for reply.

I can't see, how many free slot's you have! Can you open the Ultra2?

The patch is update your OPB Firmware and the post.

OPB = Open boot
The primary tasks of OpenBoot firmware are to:

- Test and initialize the system hardware (your OPB ist from 1997 and then 2Gb of RAM is not really approved!)
- Determine the hardware configuration
- Boot the operating system from either a mass storage device or from the network
- Provide interactive debugging facilities for testing hardware and software

POST = Power On self test
