I have a Sony VAIO Notebook PCG-FX150 with 128 MEG. I am running Windows 2000. I am trying to install two 256 MEG memory cards. I have made sure that they are specific to this model notebook. They are PC100, 144 pin, SO-DIMM, Cache level 2, Gold lead.
When I install one or both of the new cards, the notebook will not boot. When I install one with the 128 card already in, I get the SONY screen and it boots no further. The specs say that the notebook is upgradeable to 512, but so far all I am getting is frustrated. Sony's tech support could not help me either. Any ideas out there?

Sounds like either you have bad memory or you are not seating the chips fully in the socket. You should only see about 1/16 inch of the gold leads after the chip "clicks" into place when you push it in. Other than that, you are correct, the guidelines for upgrading the machine's memory have been met so it should work.

If at all possible, you might want to test the memory on another machine.

I have also seen rare instances where memory is mislabeled, in which case you may not have the proper PC100
CL2 memory.

Good luck.
