I got a system with a Supermicro Dual Xeon board, 2-GB total RAM. When the system boots the bios say it has 1032MB, when Win XP-Pro loads, System Properities says it has 2 processor and 1 GB of RAM. When I go to System Information under system tools, and look at system summary it lists Total Physical Memory as 2,048.00. I have physically checked the two memory sticks and they are labeled 1GB each. I have re installed the chipset drivers just in case but the same thing is happening. Why is it that the system properties only shows 1 GB of RAM? I don't have any spare RAM to test so I'm totally limited here. Any ideas anyone? Is there a patch that XP needs to see the whole thing?

Is there any Bios update available for your machine?

Under the Performance tab of Task Manager what does it list for Physical Memory?

Try some of these types of programs to have a more detailed look at your hardware.

Some PC's / laptops can only detect a limited amount of RAM, so although it doesn't say it's there, it may be there and you can still use it.

In addition to the above suggestions, I wonder if it could be a hardware problem (either a duff memory stick or slot). Have you tried swapping the sticks over?

Thanks for the various tips, folks. It tourned out to be a hardware problem. the motherboard is faulty. Supermicro, the board manufacturer was really instrumental in finding the problem for me. Thanks again.
