I am an Oracle DBA and am facing a problem when we deploy an ATM application .
I encounter the following errors
Fatal error: mem_lock. Unable to acquire lock(28). No space left on device.
Failed to acquire rules semaphore Error 28.

Unfortunately we do not have a Unix administrator out here.
Can anybody tell me what this is related to....
My Ram is 1GB.

Thanks
Fairlie

the first thing I would do would be to check your kernel parameters, especially those related to semaphores, SAM.

Take a look at this thread: thread51-112994. About the 5th reply down there is a list of kernel parameters that need to be tuned in HP-UX for Oracle. Compare these with what you have on your system. Some are quite a bit larger than the default.

You may need to change the kernel, which requires someone with root to make the changes and boot the system to have the changes take effect.

Let us know what happens.
