I am attempting to setup OE 9 on a Sparcstation 5. I had opened the machine to install more memory but the new memory was incompatible with machine so I discontinued the install. When I attempted to reboot the system hung with the following message (can't deduct panicbuf from memory list) Program terminated. I have tried to resit physical memory in its bay to no avail. What can I do to get my system going.

how many simms do you have?

Make sure to populate slot 0 then 1 etc..
slot 0 is next to the sbus slots.

If multiple simms, try one at a time starting with slot 0.

Thanks

I know Solaris 9 works on Ultra 5's, but are you sure it's compatible with Sparcstation 5's?

that is a good question spamly, I was wondering that myself!

thank you. I have placed the memory cards in the appropriate slots without positive result. I am still getting the same error message.

Biafran;

did you try 1 simm at a time?

Where is your cdrom connected internal or external?

Also have you run prob-scsi-all and do you see your devices(drive at one target and cdrom at another)?

Is this your only sparc5?

Thanks

I would try one module at a time and only in slot 0 to find out working modules. AFAIK slot 0 has to be populated in a Sparc5.
Maybe you should reset your nvram settings by holding down "Stop" an "N" while powering on the system.
Can you get to the "ok" prompt or is the system failing immediately?

The unit came without a cdrom so I gutted another sparcstation 5 and installed the cdrom in my machine. My system sees all modules of RAM.

Target 3

Target 6

have you tried doing a boot cdrom -s to see what happens?
