Hi,

i have a proliant 1600, running Win2000 advanced server.

On boot up, I don't get to see the desktop - the screen is just blue with only the mouse icon.

After a few minutes, the screen turns dark blue with the error message : Hardware malfunction. NMI: Parity check / memroy parity error.

Now, my question is, what can I do to remedy the problem as the server is no more under warranty, funds are low, and then, more importantly, compaq has a lousy support site - had to spend more time than I bargained trying to find info on the error message. Wasn't exactly successful, if you ask me.

Hi Pontalon,
You need to run the Compaq diagnostics to find which memory bank is bad and replace the DIMM. If the server is no longer under warranty then use third party memory from Crucial or Kingston as replacement.

I have also seen this message if you have a weird video card setup, i.e. an unsupported 3rd party video card, etc. If you have switched video from the factory config, try going back or switching to another, preferably more generic, card.

Tonyfan,
I have seen that also but it is usaly after you run a program that is graphics intensive. (ie: Athlon's with GeForce 3's and version 32.83 of the drivers) It would not happen while the system is booting up.

Sorry this is coming rather...or very late! But as they say, "better late than never!!"

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions....
