Memory modules installation location

Does it really matters in what slot the memory modules are intalled on a MOBO? Does it effect performance?

For every problem there is a solution, for every solution there is a tech behind it.

It depends on the MB.
Some require populating the RAM slots in a specific order even if the RAM modules are the same size, while some require populating 2 slots with the exact same type and size RAM for dual DDR.
The question is too general to give a specific answer.
