I have a Merlin 820 when it is powred down and then powered up again I loose all station and system memory, I am assuming the memory back up battery is bad.

On my Merlin 410 I was able to locate the battery and replace it in the FP2 module however I can not locate this on the 820. I checked the P/S and Station and Line Boards.

It is in the Feature pack cartridge (Fp1 or FP2) - same as in the 410. The Feature module is interchangeable between the 206, 410 and 820. The battery only lasts about 3 to 5 years - and needs replacement. They cost about $12 plus shipping from Refurb Supplies. If you don't have a Feature Pack installed - you have no memory backup.

If it's the Merlin plus it is in the cartridge at the top by the paging port

If it is an 820D2, the battery is in the procesor unit at the top part of the unit. It is not easy to get to get to the battery which is underneath the small motherboard - and you need a very small torx-type screwdriver to get the board out.

The plastic circuit holder at the to has a small tab you press down on while pulling it out by it's handle.

Once you get the holder/module out, 2 screws hold the small circuit board to the plastic front. I have always used the tip of my wire cutters to grab the head of the screws and remove them. There is no soldering involved, but the battery is slightly smaller than the one used in the feature packages.

Just wanted to let you guys know what I had to go through to get to this batter on teh 820d2.

I found the module as you suggested and I coudl see the battery inside. However the screws were so old that I was only able to get two of them out with an Allen wrentch. Even though I was careful, the other two got stripped due to the age of the metal of the screws.

I had to get a needle nose clamp style plyers and very slowly turn them little by little so as not to damage the borad if I slipped.

Got them loose and replaced them with Phillips screws.

This whole thing took me a few days to figure out what to do in between jobs and several hours of hunting for the Allen wrentch and then the correct plyers!

Now I have to order the new battery from Refurb supplies and their on line ordering has been off line for several weeks.

You are better off calling Refurb Supplies directly to place your order - they are redoing their website - and much of the material is out-of-date. Another vendor that has them is Sandman in Chicago ( I told you that removing that board is not easy. Good Luck!!

Thanks for the warning. I guess it was just Bell trying to keep a little secret about their system just like the Partner fuses that are hidden.

I do have a Batteries Plus. I will check with them. Refurb Supplies has been good to me in the past.
