On our SQL Server 2005 SP2 Standard Edition we are having memory-related issues. Below are some of the error messages from the log, containing 'memory'. I have read a few articles so far but have not figured a definite solution. Under pressure we had to restart the server yesterday to buy me some time...The errors are self-explanatory. What is the best way to solve the issue?

OS is Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 with 64Gb. SQL Server does not have AWE enabled, Min server memory is 0 Mb, Maximum is 2147483647 Mb (?). Index creation 8192, Minimum memory per query 4096.

Try setting the max memory. Leave room for OS and whatever else runs on the server.

Thankd djj. I enabled using AWE to allocate memory, setup min to 1Gb and max to 60Gb. Total memory being 64Gg. So far so good.

We had a bear of a time with memory problems. Even used our Tech Net calls to get it resolved. So I tell everyone with memory problems to set a max, then look at the problem.

I remember similar problems on a 64 bit SQL Server. Apparently SQL Server 2005 was bad at estimating how much memory it should leave behind. Setting a hard limit for the max server memory (in our case 8GB out of 12 GB) was the way to go.
