We've just installed a new IBM P770 UNIX server running AIX 6.0 and SAS9.2 and we're looking to tune it to where we don't have memory being exhausted. We have 64 GB of memory but aren't sure where to place the realmemsize, memsize and sortsize parameters so that our users can process 10's of millions of records without failing due to memory. I'd also like to know what type of setup it would take to keep 60 users afloat under any circumstance. I've heard that maybe setting realmemsize to 1GB might allow up to 15mm records. But what if you needed to process more? How can I keep everything in RAM and not use I/O to slow things down. Is it as simple as just throwing more RAM at the problem? Basically, I'm looking for the fastest throughput with the least amount of I/O.
