memory erros

Hello,

I am trying to create a cube but I start running into memory errors like:
(TR1901) Out of memory
rswrkfil.c (291): sort error
rsgen.c (489): sort error

I would like to know has anyone come on these kind of errors. I am using Transformer v7.0 on unix machine. I guess it has to do with PPDS_WRITE_MEMORY, PPDS_READ_MEMORY, SORTMEMORY. I have changed these about a bit, but I still get one of those errors defined above. I have adequate space for the Temporary UDA directory. I am reading over 200 million rows. Transformer reads all the records fine but the errors are thrown when the partition and consoladation starts. There is plenty of memory on the machine. Any ideas on what could be the problem would be appreciated.

I might not have the solution to your problem but just a couple of questions that could help you:

- Where is your Temporary UDA directory phisucally located ?

- In which config file have you specified it ?

- Are you retarting the Cognos Services after any changes ?


I had strange behaviours in the past.

Hi Laurent,

Thanks for reply. There is a directory for the Temporary UDA directory set in the cer2 under TEMPFILEDIRS. I do not restart Cognos services as when I start a new cube model the cube uses the new settings

The funny thing is I have two database on the one machine, the model works fine on one and does not on the other. I am reading more records off the database that the model works on. I am using informix database. My only conclusion is that this has something to do with the database environment.
But I dont know exact reason.
