Hi,

I am experiencing some problems on an HP-UX 11i system with 8Gb memory available.

We have just reconfigured this memory to reduce the O/S cache from 3.8Gb to 800Mb to free 3Gb up. To do this we changed nbuf and bufpages downwards.

Now, although there is plenty of free memory available, I am getting errors implying that memory is exhuasted.

I know this will be kernel related, but which parameters do I check?

$top: can't allocate sufficient memory

When top does run....

Memory: 4061384K (3496424K) real, 4457748K (3801304K) virtual, 2509488K free Page# 1/11

Cheers for any help thats out there......

take a look to "db_max" (or dbmax?) kernel variable. it say, how many % of memory is used as cache). By default is 50 (50%)(too much!!), let it in 5(%).

Cheers.

If you are running Oracle, have a look at the dbc_max_pct parameter. probably needs reducing to 5%
