Hello,

We have a modern Compaq (HP) ML 530 G2 server with 5 GB off RAM installed. The server POST checks 5 GB and verifies the RAM is ok. However within Novell when the memory command is entered the server only claims to have 3260, 029 Kilobytes of RAM installed ?

Regards

The most Netware 4.11 will see is 4GB. If you want more, you need NetWare 6.x. Additionally, on Compaq systems, for some reason when you tell it you're using Netware, it reduces the RAM to even less. I would say that what you are seeing is pretty typical.

Thanks for the feedback, we have reduced the server RAM to 4 GB but are still seeing the same problem from within Netware i.e. it only shows 3260, 029 Kilobytes of RAM installed.

Thanks

Ok, what I was getting at is that most likely, the number you see is the maximum amount your compaq server will allocate to NetWare. Why, I don't know. I've seen that a lot on Proliant machines, usually the G1 and G2 series. The newer HP systems don't have that issue.

However, just to play it safe, you should check your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files at the root of your C: drive. If you have any Memory Managers being loaded, remove them. There also shouldn't be any drivers loading in them. Just a few 'set' commands and that's it. Memory managers are evil and interfere with Netware ability to calculate memory properly.
