I have a quick question. We have a Medium Miran card and we need to use one of the ports for music on hold, our distributor has informed me that I can only have up to 3 rans and if I want more I have to upgrade to the large MIRAN for more $$$$.

I thought the new MIRAN cards had a much larger capacity than most interalia machines.

Help

The MIRAN-3 card supports up to 8 ports, check the Nortel website for specs.

The Miran card is very much like an interalia machine.
The Miran Small has 2 ports, Medium has 4 ports, Large has 8 ports.

On a Large card often one of the ports is used as an administrative port for making recordings etc.
So that leaves 7 ports.

If you use music on hold it uses one of the above ports.
So you will have one port less for RAN messages.

Sometimes the music quality isn't perfect with Miran.
If you use a CD player it should be music that doesn't change so much in volume. You can also use a music file to play from. (No cd required)

If you need to give the same RAN message to several calls at one time you can use RAN Broadcast. This is a software solution that gives the system ability to give a lot of calls the same message without the need to many RAN channels.

To play a music file from Miran:

1 make a new music route.
2 make a new music channel, wich is on the first tn on the miran card. (channel 0)
3 get a music file, or use the one (often) shiped on the Miran card. (it's called music.sbc)
4 assign that file to channel 0 on the miran card

Done!

If you want to convert your own music to a file it has to be in .sbc format.
This can be done with a software called goldwave.
I havent done that myself but I have heard that it should be possible.

To change volume on the played file, then you also has to change file. There is different files recorded with different volumes. Not so nice solution but it works..
