hi,

I was doing full import on the database when a hardware error caused the database and the server to crash. now when i am starting up the database it says media recovery required but i do not have the log files since durring import i was running the database in noarchivelog mode. Now i can bring the database only upto the mount state. Is there any other way than recreating the database.

thanks for the reply in advance.

bye

Have you tried to do the recovery? You should make an attempt before giving up. Even without archived log files, you should be recoverable if the redo log files haven't overwritten any of the transactions needed for the recovery.

You should also extract a lesson from this problem: Databases don't announce in advance that the are about to crash, so you should always have in mind a recovery strategy. Cold backup, export, hot backups with archive logs, there are lots of different possibilities. The only one that won't work at all is no backup.
