Hi,

I just got a new autoloader and am trying to determine the best way to create the backup jobs on it.

OS:Windows 2000 SP4
Version: r11.5 SP2

Normally for regular servers I don't use media pools and I set up two seperate backup jobs. The first does Monday night to Thursday night and the second does Friday only.
I have 4 Friday tapes that get rotated weekly and are labeled Friday 1-4 to help with file restoration.

So, on the new server I created a simple rotation and mediapool for the Monday-Thursday backup. I'm not sure what the best option is for the Friday Job though.

Can I make a second simple rotation and still have the Friday tapes Formated as Friday 1, Friday 2, etc.? or do I have to use GFS to have unique labels?

Is there a way to turn the auto naming off in GFS or within a simple rotation allow for four differently named Friday tapes?

I don't think you can change the naming format in a GFS.

To do that you would need to create two media pools. Then create two cusom jobs. One job to do the daily (Monday-Thursday) and one to do the weekly (Friday). Then name the tapes the way you want them to be named and put them in the appropriate media pools.

Make sure when you create the jobs you select the correct media pools to pull the tapes from.

for the first job I made a simple rotation which does the Mon-Thursday fine and names the tapes 'day - servername'

when I make a custom job for the fridays though with preformatted tapes, when it grabs a tape for the friday job it reformats it as dd/mm/yy. Any idea why its doing that?
