We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true.
Are all the uncooperative mpg's from the same source?
Are you able to open the uncooperative mpg's in VLC?
If so, find what codec(s) is(are) used by viewing Stream & Media Info -> Advanced Information Tab and then find/download/install them.
But...if you already have the Mega Codec Pack there shouldn't be much left to install.
Obvious question, but what error message (if any) does it give in VLC / Media Player...

It's INCREDIBLE. It'll play anything you throw at it, much like VLC, but even better! Try playing 1080p video of any sort on a slower CPU based system with VLC, and see what happens. :0)
I tested doing this with a couple 1080p files on an AMD Sempron (single core) 2600+ or was it 2800. Either way, it's a slow processor. Using VLC, the system just came to a halt, only a reboot would get going again. Exact same video files played in KMPlayer, and not a single glitch - I mean I could readily seek around in the file, sure it might pause for a moment, but nothing notable. System NEVER froze! That sold me on it as well.
Oh, I tried it as an audio player as well - seems to be a really cool audio player.
