Hi,
We have a verison 8.5 Nicelog system with Media Libray.
My question is: is it possible to restart the counter of Media Libray?

If you are referring to the tape numbers, NO. I've been down that road all the way to their office in Israel and was told that it is not possible.

The Brother P-Touch PC label carterages are very hard to find and are expensive. I just quit using it and make my own labels now. Every time I ejected a tape it was creating new labels and my numbering system was all wrong. I tried to install the Media Library with another label printer without success. If anyone has any ideas on this, let me know, I don't want to call tech-support because they are tied up working a backup drive error for me and I don't want to take their focus away from that as it is it takes weeks for repairs to occur!

Toni-

If you are talking about the cartridge Part# BRTTX2211, we get the for $25 and they last for quite some time. I do not see that as being very expensive and they were not that hard to find.

I know the problem you are speaking of, as it was happening to me too at one point, but I had NICE correct the issue. I did not pay attention to where they corrected the problem, but I believe it was in the Administrator.

Well, the short answer to this is that NO, It's not possible to reset the media library's counter... however It may be possible to simply "start again."

The media library is simply a database with a note of all of the tapes, and their contents - should you erase this database it would also "reset" the tapes numbers.

I realise erasing the DB is not a good idea, but neither is resetting the counter on Media Library as this would give you duplicate tape numbers... the only reason I can imagine that you would want to reset the tapes numbers is that you are dumping all of the data thats on the logger anyway - so erasing the DB shouldn't matter.

With regards to NICE telling you this isn't possible - I've heard this numerous times... at one point, NICE were telling people that you could only have 16 playback channels (8 RAP Units) - we have 20 on our old Universe 4.2 system.
Also, it was "not possible" for the CLS to talk to 2 telephony servers - we now have our CLS talking to 2 instances of Genesys... moral of this story I suppose is that if you pay them enough money their R&D Department will FIND a way to do it !

Regarding the Brother TX-221 labels, at one point I had issues finding a local stockist of these labels, but if you are in the UK try Bingo Office Supplies - - they stock the cartridges (currently) at £21.99 each.

Lastly, the issue with media library spitting out "phantom" tape labels, this happens when tapes are manually ejected from Automatic Archiving, then put back into the logger to resume the Archiving at a later date / time.
This was happening to us at one point until I looked into it and found the cause... I haven't applied any patches to get round this, I simply use NICE administrator to eject a tape : If you have tapes running "Automatic Archiving" simply change the relevant tape drive to "Manual Archiving" or "Retrieval." This will stop the Automatic archiving process, eject the tape(s) and print out a label for the tape... you will then NOT be able to use this tape until it has expired.

There are probably some flaws with what I'm saying - this is more to do with the fact that I'm writing this very quickly and not thinking too deep into the issues, as i don't have time at the moment.

Hope this helps anyway.

Chris Lynch
