Media Jam Error (Phaser 850)

It seems that I'm getting a fake media jam error for every print job, the error flashes on the screen, then goes away and the job prints.

Unfortunately, since this error occurred, the same page is printed several times.

What could be causing this fake media jam, then somehow or another it fixes itself? (What sensor could be causing this?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks - bill

Bill, I had the same problem on the same printer.
Have you tried the "cover stock treatment"? First open the top door of the printer, flip up the green or blue plastic piece and remove the quick release guide (piece with two tabs and clear plastic strip). Then open front door of printer and slide a piece of cover stock (thick paper) up into the slot above the metal bar above the maintenanmce drawrer (marked "A"). The paper should go in all the way until visible at top of printer. Push in and out several times. This will push out any paper scraps and also clean the parts.

That was it.

Is there a (repair) manual out there that you know of the identifies where all of these sensors are located? (that way it'll be easier to find next time)

Thanks!

I've got a problem with an 850 I think that is similar to this one. The quick look I had at it was that it would spit out a blank page if you tried to do a demo page, but just as the paper was nearly out of the top output, it would come up with an error saying "Media Jam". The sample page that it churns out when you first turn it on came out OK, but anything after that causes a media jam. Is this the same problem?

I'm not sure, does it continue to print after that - the same page.

It seems that my problem has come back, so I'm going to take that entire area apart and clean everything.

The only thing that doesn't make sense is why does that Media-Jam error automatically clear itself?? - if it were some stuck paper - wouldn't it still be lodged?

Can anyone think of another reason this may happen?

The printer is printing the pages perfectly, and only about every 3 pages does it get a media-jam error, and if I let it go, then it'll finally not get the error message and the document will finally finish printing.

An example would be, on the average, if I print a 5 page document, I get one copy of page 1 & 2, then about 5 pages of page 3, then 4 pages of page 4, then 5 pages of page 5.

I'm not sure what's triggering this media-jam. It would be much better to just disable this 'feature'.

I'll post another question to the forum with the subject of disabling this feature.

thanks - bill

The sensor flag that sits on the blue paper guide , under the exit door. it sticks straight up. This flag maybe bouncing causing a false jam. You can tighten up the spring by taking a few links out of it. Also fault history should show jam codes, they start with 22,xxx.xx.####(#### is the copy count)this number would help identify which sensor is causing the jam condition.
