Hi everyone,

I am getting the following error on Arcserve 6.1 under novell 4.11. I am relatively new to this type of backup and I want to setup a autopilot rotation. The tapes have been used before and had been configured different.

thanks for your help.

A scratch set is the set of tapes within a media pool where retention period specified for the pool has expired. The Save set is the set of tapes were the retention period has not expired. Probably the retention period for the tapes has not expired so they are still in the save set for the media pool. If you have an ARCserve manual read the section on Media pools. It explains scratch set and save sets and rotation cycles. Sometime you can be tricked because it seems like the tape's retention date is past but it still will not be used... this is because there is also a "minimum number in the save set" setting for a media pool. And tapes will not be released from the save set until the minimum number is reached. G

Setup a new job and quick erase plus the tapes to completely blank them for the new job

Hi,

I used to have the same problem with same Netware and Arcserve versions.

To fix this;

Examine pool sets and delete any pool sets except for the DEFAULT. Then change your rename the set parameter of your job in the queue to DEFAULT.

You might need to delete old tape records from database. This will give you a fresh start. Of course you will have to consider the scratch set of Deafult. Make sure the set up retention period is same with your backup cycle.

Default Pool selected. According to the manual: "Select the default pool from the destination screen and the media pooling criteria are set automatically". I need to know what are the automatic settings for the pooling criteria. What can or cannot be changed. Any info would be appreciated.
