Upgrading High School Phx AZ to 5.0. Opt 11c to 5.0. 1 MGC card will not come up. Configured as Loop 0-1 (#2 expansion cabinet) Loops 4-0,0-0(main)4-1,8-0 all ok. MGC 0-1 came up in lab, but not on site.Has dsp daughter-96 vgw added. Can ping via command line from laptop as TLAN IP and ELAN IP. Cannot ping from call server Ld 117. Database is showing tns are all there. Does MGC have to be redone? Can't remove and redo from sig serv due to all the tns. What procedure? Any thoughts? Thanks

Are you sure, you are using the right connctions on the faceplate on the cards.

Elan and TLAN top 2 conn. Same as the other 4 cabinets.

Sometimes if you have set the IP address on the MGC and the IP address for the Call server, it registers but changes callserver IP after reboot and therefor does not get connected.

I had this problem because I had tried different setups with the system and under MGC setings in the Element Manager I had a different Call Server IP address just for this MGC.

So when the MGC registred, it got wrong information downloaded from the system that was activated during reboot. Andtherefor did not register when it came up again.

You can always blow away the MGC and re-set it's IP address from scratch (diskformat from LDB prompt). If you do not know how to do this, you need to get GNTS involved. The LDB prompt on the MGCs is similar to the PDT prompt as far as I can tell in level of access (not that you have patch installation rights in LDB, but... the damage that can be done with LDB commands are about as dangerous as PDT commands in the hands of someone untrained.)

Then the MGC will re-download the necessary information from Element Manager and you won't have to delete TNs, etc.

If you cannot ping the ELAN IP address from the Call Server, then I'd suggest you start by moving the Call Server ELAN cable to another port that can ping the MGC ELAN IP. Perhaps the network has VLAN assignments on the ports? I've seen this and customers who (accidently) plug their MGC in to a mirrored port play merry hell with registration attempts.
