i just purchased this, but not sure i have the right product.

i have a wireless g router next to the tv,
use a wireless g nic in my laptop to connect.

and have a pc upstairs that i will/can load xp media center edition 2005 and is connected to the network but
via wired linksys router.

is it possible to use the extender this way ??

if not, are/is there another product i can use so i can stream video/tv stations from the web and play mp3 and mpegs
to the tv wired or wirelessly ??

thanks gang

thank bro !
i do have that setup but not familiar w/ the extender
if i can use my pc upstairs loaded w/ the media or can use my wireless laptop that i really want to use
to stream video from web to the extender
do u know ??

i would direct cable the extender to the tv underneath it.
thanks for any info

Do you have windows media center running on your PC yet? Get that configured first and make sure that it runs properly. The extender will just piggy back on your windows media center setup. If you had stuff you wanted to watch via your extender, you'll have to place it into your windows media box and then your extender will have access to it.

gotcha
so i can have windows media on my wireless laptop
downstairs near the tv/extender
or/and
upstairs on a hardwired pc running windows media ?

I don't think you can have 2 media centers. Why would you not simply stream media directly from your pc instead of the laptop? Your extender helps you navigate the contents of your pc that you have upstairs. I'm not too clear on what role your laptop plays in all this.

gotcha
i would like to stream, but since i'm usually in front of the tv downstairs, i can stream from the laptop i thought easier instead of running upstairs ??

for example, i want to stream live tv streams from the internet to the tv
so i dont know how i can do that from downstairs when its upstairs ?

that was my main issue, i cant run like IE from the tv/media center right ??

thanks again for any info

Kay... you don't need a keyboard or mouse to operate the media center. If you purchased the bundled package, you will notice that it comes with a remote. There are some units that actually look like a stereo component. Doesn't come with keyboard or mouse, just a remote. You just plug it into your TV, stereo, satellite or cable, ethernet or wireless and away you go.

In your case, that's why you got the extender. You don't need to run upstairs because your extender comes with it's own remote. You just have to sync your extender with your media center that's upstairs and then control it with the extender remote.

With regards to the streaming tv... I think I misunderstood you. I though you were refering to streaming tv from your pc upstairs down to your extender wirelessly, but from what I understand now, you want to stream tv from the internet into your media center and your extender. Never done that myself... I do dishnetwork... but the media center does come with media player 10, so it will play any file type that is supported by the media player 10. Hope it helps.

thanks bro !!
yeah, i have websites that i put into IE that launch live streaming tv in other countries and sports to watch
so i was hopping i can do the same on the media/tv

so it comes w/ media player 10 but can you launch IE and got to a website then ??

also is the "syncing" to extender from media center easy to do ?

The sync between the media center and the extender is pretty basic. You're given a key from your extender, you take the cd that came with the extender put it in the media center and then it will prompt you for the key you got from the extender. Not much to it.

The media center is basically windows xp with a media shell. So technically yes you can surf the net and get to your streaming tv web site. I've always used my media center for just the media shell. I've got other pc's that I use to surf the net and do all my other stuff with, but give it a try. I'd be curious what you come up with. Well good luck mate. Hope things work out for the best. Keep us posted!

appreciate all your help !!
will do
i just didnt know i could bring up a browser/IE on the extender on the Television

thanks again
