Media error

I've got Win2000 server and Arcserve 11, and using brand new tape. I'm getting following errors:
E6096 Media error [ABSL:2040 CMD:1h TapeName:FRIDAY RID:7351 Barcode:1000002]
E3705 Unable to format media (MEDIA=FRIDAY, EC=NO DATA DETECTED)
Please mount one of thefollowing media in device group GROUP:
1.<BLANK>

It gives the same error (no data detected) if I just try to format the tape.

Any help welcome. Thank you.
