Hello:

I am running BE 8.5 on a Windows NT 4.0 SP6 environment. Currently all my nightly backup jobs complete successfully but the media ejects from the tape drive after the job finishes. I have verified that the "eject media after job completes" box is unchecked. I also checked the registry settings on the the backup server for any value that might be forcing the media to eject. Has anyone seen this before & if so, what solution do you have?

Are you using a single tape drive or a library?

A library will always eject the media from the drive after a backup.

Is it a major problem if the tape ejects??

I am using a single internal tape drive. The media is a DDS4 20/40GB. Yes, it is a major problem for my client that the media ejects since I only visit them 1 day per week & the sole office admin sometimes forgets to change the tape when she gets in the office in the mornings. I haven't been able to find an answer to this problem in the Veritas website & my client does not want to pay for phone support.

Is the tape full after the backup? I think that will cause it to be ejected regardless of the 'Eject after job completes' setting.

No. The tape is not full after the backup completes. I am currently backing up 27GBs. The media has a 20/40GB compression rate & I have been able to backup beyond the 32GB capacity with this type of media before without any problems. I have also tried using different media at no avail as well as cleaning the media tape drive & switching between hardware & software compression.

Perhaps you could have the office admin create a daily reminder in outlook for her to change the tape. That might do the trick.

Are you sure that the backup is definatley completing?? Ie: not asking for another tape to continue writing??

I am sure the job completes successfully. Yesterday, I deleted the original backup job, & recreated it while logged in as the original Backup Exec service account. I'll call the admin today & ask her whether the tape ejected or not.
