I very well might be posting this in the wrong place, so sorry if that is true. My question is Concerning a 3Com 4400. I have installed a 1000base fiber module in the back and am trying to hook it up using a 100base media converter. Is that even possible or do I need to purchase another media converter? Thanks

There are at least two gig fiber standards for multimode: 1000baseSX is for short range and 1000baseLX for longer range. Neither one will shift down to become 100baseFX or 10baseFL. I have heard rumors of a 100baseSX fiber standard that WILL shift down to 10baseFL, but still it is not capable of gig.

In general fiber does not autonegotiate either speed or duplex, although again I have heard rumors of 100baseSX which can.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
