I have discover that ARCServe don't see that the SureStore HP DAT24x6 can compress medias and the Item Compression is grayed! Do I must have a tool from HP or there is a problem in ARCServe? It uses the C1557A tape library.

Thanks!

I believe that ARCserve offers software compression if no hardware compression is available with the device. According to the information on HP.com, C1557A has hardware compression. So, ARCserve may have disabled its software compress.

The documentation that came with your drive should tell you how to turn hardware compression on/off. If you don't have the doc, try searching hp.com.

Forget the 'compression' settings in the Device Manager.
This is meant to disable/enable hardware compression on a 'one tape' basis and is greyed out when the hardware doesn't support this.
You can be pretty sure that your HP autoloader is configured with the hardware compression enabled. Check the service manual to see if there is explained how to enable/disable hardware compression. Mostly this is a jumper or BIOS setting.
