Media center reciever service error

Hi There, maybe someone can help me out here.

Have bought a new amd athlon 64 pc, 1Gb of memory, asus moteherboard and hauppage 88 tv card to support Windows xp media center.

Recieve error messages, lots of them, every 3 minutes because service ehrecvr.exe is automatically started, and runs into an error. Without this service(and also when recieving the error) the tv card does not work.
The error returned here is telling me that media center has returned an error:
szAppName : ehrecvr.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2715.2812 szModName : vp6dec.ax
szModVer : 6.4.2.0 offset : 00001b02

for the diehards, following fikes are added to the error report:
\ehrecvr.exe.mdmp
\appcompat.txt

so far, no error report sent has come up with a possible solution...
Helpdesk is telling me to restore the pc to original settings... it did work, until I rebooted after a day... same issue again.

can anyone give a hint here on how to resolve this error?

Has Hauppage provided any ideas..Sounds like their program is what is the problem, not Windows..
