Personally, I can't see how £400 per person is justified for this two day event. I know that it costs money to bring the speakers together, the venue, the organisation of the event etc... but it's out of my price range (as a contract developer)... and sadly out of the price range of all my work colleagues (well... the 5 developers I've forwarded the details to) so far.

Once you have added transport costs to London, transport costs in London, accomodation costs and food... it's an expensive event no matter what else it is.

It'll sell out - I'm sure.

Good luck getting work to stump-up on this one, Foamcow [smile]

Cheers,
Jeff

I was hoping to sweet talk you into letting me crash at your place LOL

I'd really like to go simply for the chance to meet and talk to some people on the same wavelength as me.
Round here (geographically) everyone seems to be into slicing fireworks layouts and they look at me funny when I talk to them about semantic markup and CSS.

If you can't get the company to stump up the attendance fee, maybe you can make it to the [!]alt@media2006[/i] event running over that weekend at our apartment.

Nothing too formal... we each do our own presentations and then have a Q&A session afterwards! Like the proper conference, we have refreshments available... free WiFi... and the opportunity to rant into the wee hours [smile]

Cheers,
Jeff

Having decided it was too expensive, I was still really kicking myself for not going last year. So this year I'm gonna go! (if I pull my finger out and sign up in time). Would be good to look in on alt@media2006 too though.

Let me know if you pull it off Foamy and we'll meet up.

Now then Jeff, where do I sign up for !media ?
Believe it or not - after talking with some other contractors at work... there is quite a bit of interest! That'll teach me to open my big mouth!

I'm going to do some more structured thinking about this over the weekend... and I'll post back my thoughts.

Have a good one!
Jeff

I've had little joy from our local "Start" offices (they have a couple of huge spaces - but very little customer services)... I'll drop in and physically talk with them to see if we can use it.

If I get the nod on the space, I'll organise something for up to about 40 people. If not... it's going to be a cosy 8 to 10 in our flat (which has plenty of WiFi and coffee).

Anyway, I'm still on this... and will post back :)

Cheers,
Jeff

Jeff, if you're going to hire space and make a (relatively) seriousl event of it, I suggest you don't have it clash with @media. Mainly cos I want to come to both!

Any chance of doing it on the Saturday after @media finishes?
