I'm looking for info on Mechanical desktop. My employer seems to think
that mechanical desktop would be "SUPER" for drawing custom curve stairs in 3-D and seems to think that all you have to do is enter stair dimensions and VOILA it's done. I think he's a nutcase but, he's the boss so I'm out to gain as much info from any of you that are mechanical desk top users. I've never used this software myself but, I'm sure what he wants cannot be done with it. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I believe Autodesk it directing all of their resources toward Inventor and not Mechanical Desktop. Desktop will be supported for a while but the future for them is clearly in Inventor. Unlike Desktop, Inventor separates the model, assembly, and drafting files (like most 3D software), keeping file size smaller and somewhat more manageable. It is not a dwg format anymore though. As for making stairs quickly, well... It may be able to do it with some creative programs (there may be some already?) but those things are not "built in" to any 3D program.
