Me Op Sys and HD>40 GB 1

I plan to install a second HD in my HP Pavilion (Pent 3) to use as backup. I think the HD access limit with this Op Sys is ~40 GB. I can get 40GB from Azon but then I can get an 80 GB for $8 more.
My question; Does the Me system acess ONLY 40 GB of an 80 GB drive or does it fail to recognize an 80GB at all because of the extended size?
My reasoning; Upgrading the Op Sys would allow me to redefine 'C' drive to the 80 and retain the 40 as backup for the interim and transfer the 80 to a new system I plan to construct.

ME can cope with 80 GB drive ok - only issue would be can your machine's bios - and if it can see 40GB, I'd be 99% sure it can see 80.

Thanks so much. I ordered the 80GB on Sunday; it got here Wednesday; and I installed it today. ME sees the whole 80 gig.
