If I create a shortcut of my DB and launch it from the desktop (having changed the target to include the specified .MDW file) everything works fine. I'm asked to log-on just as I wanted it too.

None of my other DB's are affected just as I hoped. The problem is when I launch my 'secured DB' from Explorer, I'm not prompted.

I've read elsewhere that I should modify the 'command-line' in Start-Up. Where is this Command Line? Are they refering to the Target box for Access.exe itself? Surely this would mean that every time you start Access my secured DB will be launched?

Any ideas?

If your goal is to secure your database and you can log into now without your special icon you need to read up on Access security. I'd start in FAQ section of this website.

Actually, I'd not bother with the FAQ section here, just go straight to MS and get the Access Security FAQ from them. This contains 99% of what you'll ever need to know about Access security.

I've got a copy on my website, or you can get it from MS.

Basically, it sounds like you created your database when you were attached to the default workgroup, or that your workgroup is just a modified version of the default one. The FAQ has step-by-step instructions for how to secure a database.

NYC you're right to say that my app was created when attached to the default workspace. I made the new workgroup however using the wrkgadm.exe file. Is this what you mean?

I'll be sure to take a look at the MS site. Cheers for your help.

If your app was made while connected to the default mdw, all it takes to get into that app is to connect to the default mdw if you're not already, quit access, delete the default mdw, and open the database again. Another default mdw will be created, and it will grant full permission, indeed ownership, to anyone who opens the database. Check out the FAQ--it's got that and tons more.
