MDW 9031 Wireless Phone Problems

We have been using an MDW 9031 wireless phone for nearly 6 years without any problems. Earlier this year, we started having major range problems. Some times of the day, the range is down to about 50 feet. Previously, the phone would work in another building 300 ft from the module.

We have a backup phone/module so I installed that one - same range problems. I tried moving the modules around, but the range just isn't what it used to be. It may be a coincidence, but our problems seem to have started the same time another company moved into the building next door in our industrial complex.

I have looked into using the newer MDW9040 portable, but it uses the same frequency as the MDW9031 (900MHz), so I don't think it will help. I am also considering going with several standard 5.8 GHz multi-line wireless phones, but I'm open to suggestions.

Yes, the 9040's and to a lesser degree the 9031's have begun to suffer major problems from what seems to be interference. The issue manifests itself as clicking and popping that can make the system unusable. This is a known problem (Avaya) with multiple radio units/handsets when they are used at once however I am seeing it even with single handset installations.

I don't know if what you describe as a "range limitation" is actually an onset and increase of clicking and popping to the point that conversation is impossible. I can say that 50 feet is quite good. Around here this occurs as little as 5-10 feet from the radio unit.

As far as I know there isn't any fix for this. I've stopped selling 9040's because of it. Hopefully Avaya will came out with the 9050 that will address the issue as well as others.

try this link to engenius phones. They are better than 5.8 G phones. I have seen them work 1 mile range with the outdoor added antenna installed. The other thing you might try before giving up on the Avaya cordless is move the base to a new location to see if you can get around the interference wall that other new equipment may have added.

We do not push these cordless phones from Avaya anymore except in locations where it is single tenant building, where they control the environment.

Don't even bother selling them there. We have lots of them installed out there and no matter where they are they all have begun to have this problem. Moving them makes no difference. It's just a bug in their design.
