MDF and LDF files

I have a finanacial software running on a SQL platform therefore a SQL database called GP was created for that software. That database gets backedup thru SQL backup then I backup the .bak file thru my regular data backups. Should I be also backing up the SQL databases like the .mdf, .ldf files?
