Hi,

The mde front end opens loading a form, which is the main menu screen. This also triggers a few queries.

Just recently users are reporting that when they open the mde file they get the database table view. So either Access is failing or someones hacking.
Can anyone shed some light on how a user could change this setting on a mde file and how I can find out who's doing it??

Thanks

It is possible to open an MDE in design mode and while the code itself for forms, modules etc is not visible, a user can STILL delete objects (such as an autoexec macro) and also get to the startup options and change how the database works (including the startup form (if that's how you get to the main form) To protect against this I would suggest one of two options: Either install security via an MDW to prevent this OR put in code which disables the SHIFT key access on start up. This is the method I use as it is simpler but still affords a level of protection against the casual inquisitve user who thinks of themselves as a programmer or hacker. Hope this helps.

Regards
Rod

Also - DON'T USE MACROS.

Anything that can be done in an AutoExec macro can be done in a StartUp Form's On_Open Event and as mentioned above - you can't hack the code.
