How do I create an MDE to distribute to our access users.

I've just had to fix a bug in a new application on my new PC with MSO2010 (it was originally developed in Access 2003)

Only now I can't find the option to create the MDE to distribute it to our users.

I guess it's been moved but I just can't seem to find it?

All help appreciated.

For me, with ac2010 you can only save as ACDE, not MDE ...

Hope This Helps, PH.

Finally found it after Googling!

None of the options exist under database tools anymore that's the problem!

I can make an MDE and not an ACCDE, it's under File->Save & Publish.

then under the 'Advanced' sub section there is 'Make MDE'.

I guess you cannot make an ACCDE unless you have an ACCDB!

HOWEVER, that hasn't solved the issue, because everyone with MS Office 2003 now can't open the MDE as it errors saying.

'Not a recognisable format'?

How do I compile the DB in MSO2010 and make it usable within the company when most have MSO2003?

The easiest way is to open the mdb in MS Access 2003 and create the mde.

Do you have Access 2003 on your current PC?

If not, I would go to a PC with Access 2003 and create the MDE.

In my experience with Access over the past 15 years, Newer versions of Access could always open files created by the older/prior versions but the reverse was not true.

So, I have always kept a version of MS Access on my development PC
Access 2, Access 97, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2007. Have not yet installed 2010.

Hope This Helps,

I don't have 2010 installed, but in 2007 you have the option to save in 2003 format. If that's available in 2010, it should create a version that can then be opened in 2003.

yup , that's what i had to do, but now I have even bigger problems.

MSO2010 doesn't allow you to install CDO 1.2.1

So I can't even open the company's main database, let alone work on it.
