Hi

I have an .mdb database created in Access 2000. The backend is on a networked server and we have customized frontends. Users are currently using Access 2003 but I am about to start using Access 2010 (new computer) and the main other user will remain with 2003 for the time being. There could be other users with Access 2007.

Questions: Will there be any loss of design functionality for either my frontend or the backend if I keep my frontend in the current .mdb format, but open it in 2010?

Will I be able to create/modify .mdb frontends for the other users using 2010?

Will I be able to modify the backend from 2010?

Thanks

Yes, you can modify them, but I will definitely offer some caution from some recent experiences I had.

For instance, one database that was created (by me) using Access 2010 was initially accessible and usable by users with Access 2007. Then I ran a compact and repair on the database (after they had accessed the database w/Access 2007) on my machine (with Access 2010). After that, the users could no longer get to the database. I looked online, and it sounds like a pretty common issue beginning with version 2010. So always backup for certain, and tread lightly.

I did notice on the same database that when I went ahead and converted it from accdb to the old mdb format, the issues went away, compact and repair or not. So, if you keep them in the old mdb format, you may not run into the same issues.

Thanks kvj, I will keep it in the old format until all users have the same version ... which could be never ... appreciate your input.
