My .mdb Access database file is approaching 30mb in size. How large can it get before I need to worry about its reliability and performance? I could decrease its size by having it hold annual data only, but would rather keep all the data in one file if Access can handle the size.

Have you done a Compact And Repair?(Tools - Database Utilities - Compact and Repair) Usually that'll knock out a few MB's.

If you're creating tables, creating/changing new queries, have make table queries, obviously adding new forms, all this bloats your database. Deletions also leave the space so the compact/repair basically does a defrag.

FYI, 30MB is nothing! You're only using about 1/68 of Access' 2 GB limit! Doing a Compact and Repair from time to time won't hurt, but remember to always copy of your database first and place a copy in a safe location! Don't ever fail to do this! The procedure has a nasty habit of corrupting data!
