Everytime I start Mdaemon(v7.2.0) my system(winXP-pro:sp1) slows down, locks up and then restarts. I noticed this happening 2 weeks after I installed symantec corp. ed. 10.0.1. I have called symantec tech support but they have no documentation on anthing like this. So far I have done the following to try to fix.

1. removed email scanning from symantec AV
2. set virtual memory to - set managed size
3. update the network adapters drivers.
4. fully scanned for viruses.
5. fully scanned for spyware using ms antispyware
6. uninstalled symantec AV
7. disk defrag

When the system restarts I get this Microsoft error reporting message:

hkcmd Module has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
AppName: hkcmd.exe AppVer: 3.0.0.1847 ModName: oleaut32.dll
ModVer: 3.50.5016.0 Offset: 00001767

Also one time only I got the following link pop up.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=293078
about Error message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER
which I followed but no change occured.

Did you make sure to exclude the entire MDaemon directory from real time file protection in Symantec.

No I did not, but I did uninstall SAV and Mdaemon still had the same effect on the system.

Odd, I've had good luck with MD not crashing at all, for several clients.

HKCMD.EXE is some sort of shortcut key utility from Intel, maybe try rebooting and immediately ending the HKCMD process and see how long the server runs?

I ended HKCMD.EXE without starting MD and everything is fine. As soon as I start MD in about 5 secs the system restarts. This time after relogging into the system NO Microsoft error reporting message appears.

Dunno Jacob, I searched the aln-n site and didn't find a single hit for HKCMD.EXE. It's running right now on my MDaemon server and we've never had a problem. Granted, we're running 8.1.3 or whatever the most recent version is, but we started with MDaemon on version 6.5.

Possibly something went wonky on your install of the Intel utility that caused problems... it does happen.

So you're all set for now?

well MD still crashes the system. I will see what I can do.

Thanks
