MDAC 2.8 - an error was encountered

I am stuck !

I wrote a VB (6.0) application "talking" with an access 2000 database.
Some users (as always) have only access 97.
This was not a problem, if I installed MDAC 2.8 on their machine. This always worked so far.
Today, I installed my application on 2 more machines.
When I tried to install MDAC 2.8, I got a (very helpfull) error message. Something like this :
"an error was encountered, please contact ....".
I had a look on the microsoft site, and several forums, to no avail.
Any suggestions ?

Is the MDAC install an MSI? If so, did you look for an installation log?

I probably will look stupid, but well - it won't be the first time !
What is a "MSI" ?
(I downloaded the file from the microsoft web).
I did look for a log file, but didn't know where to start looking, what name this file could have etc.

I checked again and found the file dasetup.log - it seems to be THE file !
