Hey guys & gals,

Im having a bad problem with my MDAC 2.5 drivers I guess.
And it seems to affect tons of programs on my computer. Even the ones that use the ODBC drivers for Access.
I get this error alot. When I try to access anything that is listed in my ODBC User DSN settings.
ODBC Administrator

The setup routines for the Microsoft Access Driver(*.mdb) ODBC driver could not be loaded due to system error code 31.

Anyone that knows anything about this I woudl appriecate it.

I found a couple, maybe one of them will work?ODBC errors

When you open an ODBC DSN for Access, Excel or Text file, you get the error:

The setup routines for the Microsoft Access driver (*.mdb) ODBC driver could not be loaded due to system error code 126. Could not load the setup or translator library.

Install MDAC 2.1 available from the MS website or from the Verstand downloads area.

There are two possible reasons for this problem:

Incorrect registry settings for MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components).
Incompatible .dll files

If the problem is caused by incorrect registry settings:

1. Go to Start->Run and type in regedit, and press enter.
2. Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI

This key holds the installation information for ODBC drivers. Make sure that all the required ODBC driver files are in the correct folder. Any wrong value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI will caused this error. Also, check the ODBCINST.INI file to make sure all of the entries are correct.

If the registry settings are correct, reinstall the MDAC. You can download the most recent version of the MDAC at

Thanks for the info. The only bad thing is nothing helped....:-(
When I install anything that has to do with ODBC, MDAC or anything like that it just basically pukes on itself and doesn't finish installing. I would think it would overwrite the files that were installed and repair a corrupt .dll file. But it doesn't. I have tried removing Office 2000 and reinstalling it but it gets to the ODBC part of the install and craps on itself. I have tried everthing I can think of to fix this problem and nothing has done it.
I wonder if copying the .dll files from a working computer onto this one and seeing if that would work?
Any ideas??

Nate
