Can anyone offer me some advice on which elective to take?

To be perfectly honest, I haven't got a huge idea about either of these exams, I'm still studying the other modules, but I need to book up an MCSE for November this year now - which is why I am asking.

How used is ISA in the real world? Is this elective worth having? I appreciate AD an extremely useful skill to have, although of course that is covered somewhat in 70-294.

Shall I go for the AD design, or the ISA?

Also, how do the subjects/exams compare in regards to difficulty?

Many thank for any help.

I am not trying to discourage you to take 70-297. Let me just say that I've taken it 3 times in the last 2 months. Failed it the last two times with the score of 674 (700 to pass).
I am not the type to give up, so I will keep on trying. The great thing about the exam is learning the "why" to correlate with "how" from past exams. So if you're thinking of becoming an AD advisor for your customers, you might consider taking this exam.

Can anyone tell me where to get some examples of the exam to practice?

I've worked at several shops, large and small, and none are using ISA. The training school that my wife went to for a while used to offer ISA, but the students all said that none of the employeers wanted ISA training.

Have you already taken 70-298? You need to take 70-297 or 70-298 for the "Core Exams: Design" requirment. I would recommend selecting another elective that interests you (Exchange, SQL, or one of the other offered AD tests) as your elective.

If you take 70-297 as your elective (which it sounds like you are doing as you are thinking about 70-297 or an ISA exam (70-350, 70-227) then you will also need to take the 70-298.

If you are thinking about getting your MCSA as well as your MCSE I would recommend taking 70-089 (SMS), 70-227 (ISA 2000), 70-228 (SQL 2000), 70-287 (Exchange), 70-350 (ISA 2004), or 70-431 (SQL 2005) as they all apply to both the MCSE and MCSA. The MCSA requirments are mostly a subset of the MCSE requirments so since you can take one of the listed certs and have it count for both exams you can then get the MCSA without having to take any extra tests. (If the correct electives are taking you can also get your MCDBA and only have to take one extra test).
