OK guys, i've decided to get myself up to speed for the last two remaining MCP for my MCSE 2003:
70-293
&
70-297

I'm going to book 293 for march 16th, then the 297 will follow may 16th normally...

i'm hitting the MS books and transcender practise tests, anyone got any pointers for either exam?

I'm mostly concerned about the design exam. I've never yet sat one and i'd like to hear anyone's experience on this type of MCP. Is it like transcender?
How does the time limit feel with regard to the actual exam content...?

basically looking for comfort here ;-)
cheers,
David

aftertaf,

I'm also MCSE -2, and I've taken and passed 70-293. I think I scored highest on 70-293 of all the MCP exams I've taken.

I still have 70-294 and 70-298 ahead of me, so I can't give you any advice on the design exams, but 70-293 was not as difficult as 70-290 or 70-291.

cheers wishdiak
(appreciated your site btw, lots of 'shiny happy ppl')

booked it for next wednesday...
and working thru book & transcender right now.

seems like you're also leaving the design exam till last ;-)

are you planning to sit 294 soon? Between 294 & 218, i scored 900+ on both and (logically) found both really easy compared..
i think the toughest 2 i have sat were 210 + 228, and 210 was my first one.

Let me know how your -2 evolves . . . might get ourselves MCSE'ed round the same time my friend :)

aftertaf,

I scored 919 on 70-293, but the pace has slowed since my MCSA.

I'm not putting as much effort into persuing my MCSE right now, since I have to concentrate more on getting a job.

Good luck with your exam! (and thanks for the plug)

sitting 293 in 2 hrs time...

last minute panicrevision underway, checking my errors on mocktests, rererereading nmb, clusters, ipsec, certificates...

i find this moment in time always worrying!
just never know what to expect, even after 6 exams...
ok, i know the procedure, but the content can still take you by surprise.

will let you all know (1 way or another!!!)

I passed, with 800!!!!

Phew, it was a toughie... I wasn't prepared enough on all the details of CA, IPSec & Clustering, but i must have done something right along the way

Well, now I am disappointed with myself.. having gone thru the exam twice I discover... I failed... worse than yesterday :(

Word of advice, don't use the MOC to try and pass your exam. I am going to have to change my reading material.
Worse thing is that 80% of the questions were the same as yesterday.. I talked myself out of using the same answers... stupid stupid stupid.

Oh well, new format exam for me in 2 weeks time then!

lool.
dont worry...

and i've found good material in the past is the MS Press
Self training kits
and transcenders...

you'll have to be thrid time lucky in that case....

aftertaf,

My impression of 70-293, when I took it a couple of months ago, was that everything from 70-290 and 70-291 was fair game for this exam, with Load Balancing and Server Clustering thrown in. Effectively, the new material was covered in 2 chapters of the 70-293 MS Press book.

Would you say that your experience was the same?

So far i would say that 293 was the easiest one ... if you do understand the topics covered in 290 and 291!
Like Wishdiak mentions, if you study NLB and clustering (and maybe a little CA's) u'll pass.

For my way of study, i always read the MS-press-book and read all Q&A's from TestKing and Transcender, after that i think i should pass the exam if i do them right.

actually guys, i've never sat 290 or 291, i got here via 2000 mcsa track then upgraded with 292.

I did have a good half of the exam on clusters and CA questions, with some 'perimeter' network config q's thrown in.
i wasn't convinced when I hit the Finish button and took a good few seconds understanding that 800 was better than 700.
That's twice now that i didn't see the 'congrats' message to begin with.

I actually hit the button then went to the other end of the room, barely looking at the screen.... lool
