MCSD can u just take the exam?

Hi, i am looking into taking the MCSD, what is the least expensive route? can u just sit an exam somewhere? I have been programming for a few years, so would just like do maybe do some online training and buy a couple of books, and sit the exam (and no doubt fail!!!).

I am in the UK. Can anyone recommend online training sites? Books and how to sit the exam in the cheepest fashion?

you can sit any microsoft exam. prometric or vue website can help you locate a nearby testing facility as well as scheduling and paying for the exam. at the very least, it would prove benificial to visit microsoft's site to review of the objectives each exam covers. i have found great success with the purchase of the sybex press book (for each exam) and then using selftest software pre-test or trancender pre-test after digesting the material.
