Hi Guys.
OK - I've got my CompTIA A+ and Network+ certs by self-study using Mike Myers All-In-One books (which I thought were great). I now want to get my MCSA on 2003 requirements, and don't need to do an elective as I can use the A+ and Network+ for that. So...
Can anyone please recommend some good self-study textbooks for me to cover the two Server 2003 exams and the XP exam?
I've had a quick look at 'Mastering Windows Server 2003" by Sybex. It's a hefty 1,500 pages but looks good - would that cover me for the two Server exams?

Thanks very much guys.

I used the big blue Microsoft Press books for the MSCA exams and found them to be fairly helpfull.

MrTBC,

The Sybex book may or may not cover all the material on 70-290 and 70-291.

Keep in mind that in addition to the above exams, you'll also need to pass an exam on a client OS (either 70-210 for Windows 2000 or 70-270 for Windows XP Pro).

In all of the above cases, I'd recommend the MS Press books, as mrdenny has. I expect that you could find them used for very little.

me too, the ms press books are very well written and guide you through the points covered on the exam.

that and hands on, and mock exams maybe, and you're rolling

Thanks everyone - great stuff!

OK - just so I get this right...do I need two books for the two Server exams or one please? Obviously then I also need one for the Client exam as well.
(sorry to be such a newbie on this - just don't want to waste any hard earnt ca$h...:->)

MrTBC,

Since the objectives on the two server exams for MCSA (70-290 and 70-291) are different, I would suggest obtaining a book for each exam.

I wouldn't be suprised if you could find these books used for very little money.

Thanks again for all of your help guys, I've ordered these today:

"MCSA/MCSE Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-290): Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment"

1 "MCSA/MCSE Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-291): Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure"

Each of the books does cover different topics. You may want to hit the public library and take a look at the 70-293 book as well. There will be some topics from 70-293 on the 70-291 exam.

(I won't buy the 70-293 book unless you plan on taking the test. The library should have all the books for review before you buy them.)
