I'm thinking about going after my MCSA or MCSE but I can't decide which one I should go for. I've been a network admin for over 5 years in a Novell environment. But now we are converting to Microsoft. My job doesn't require that I get certified, but it's more of a personal goal than anything. I feel like it will push me to learn everything faster. I'm no stranger to Microsoft, but am fairly new to the AD environment. Which certification should I aim for? And what material do you recommend for a self study?

Thanks.

Why only one. Why not both?

If done correctly you can get both without adding any additional exams.

Start with your MCSA then finish up with the MCSE.

I reommend the MS Press Books(the Big Blue ones).

Denny
MCSA (2003) / MCDBA (SQL 2000)
MCTS (SQL 2005 / Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0: Configuration / Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007: Configuration)
MCITP Database Administrator (SQL 2005) / Database Developer (SQL 2005)

Yeah, I agree with Mr Denny.
Do your MCSA first (4 exams), then do the additional 3 to get your MCSE.
I used the big blue MS Press books and the CBT NUgget training videos.

Good luck!
