This may sound like a stupid question.

I am taking my Server+ exam in the next two weeks and after this I will start studying towards the MCSA exam 70-290. I have already got hold of the Sybex MCSA 2003 core requirements books that cover all three exams I will need to pass in order to become MCSA certified.

My plan is to use my A+, Network+ as an objective for MCSA and then go on and use the Security+ as a MCSE objective for MCSE 2003 Security.

My real question is. If I become MCSA certified is it then just a case of passing three more MCSE exams to upgrade the MCSA to MCSE?

thebully,

It sounds like you have it all covered. If you have A+, Network+, and Security+, then you already have the elective requirement for MCSA and MCSE satisfied.

According to Microsoft, you'll need to pass 3 exams (70-270 or70-210, 70-290, 70-291) for MCSA and then 3 more for MCSE.

Yes, as long as the exams that you take all fall within the required list. I took the path of MCP ---> MCP + Internet ---> MCSE when I did my 4.0 track.

Cheers that sounds good one more thing, if I become MCSA and then pass the exams for MCSE will that make me an MCSA and an MCSE or just an MCSE. ;)

IE can I say MCSA 2003 Server, MCSE 2003 Server or just MCSE 2003 server. Does attaining MCSE after MCSA mean your upgrading your current certification status or gaining a whole new certification?

Technically, you'll have both certifications. I only list my highest certification per certification line, unless one of the sub-certs is a specialization. For my 4.0 line, I include MCP+Internet and MCSE. I don't put in MCP. You have the right to add both, but if you do it looks cheesy to those that know what it is. To a non-IT person it looks impressive tho :)
