I currently have my:
70-270(MCP)

70-271(MCDST)
70-272

Now for MCSA 2003 the MCDST counts as an elective. According to the MS web site.

But for MCSE 2003 there is no mentioning of the MCDST being an elective offer.

Anyone know if it would count?

Just so I know if I should plan on having to take yet another test to get my MCSE 2003.

Thanks

Ryan

6 Cores and 1 Elective for MCSE 2003

But the route I am taking to get the MCSA 2003 is using the MCDST as the elective. So when I go for the MCSE 2003 the MCDST doesnt appear to count as an elective even though I will have completed the Core exams. Thats what I am wondering is if the MCDST will count or if I will have to take another elective to gain the MCSE 2003 :)

Ok.. so the MCSA will count for the elective..

The only client operating system test for MCSE is 270 and you've already taken it.. I doubt the DST would count for anything else (MCSE is a server certification not client)

To finish MCSE you would have to take

Exam 70-293: Planning and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure

Exam 70-294: Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure

and one of the following
Exam 70-2972, 3: Designing a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory and Network Infrastructure
or
Exam 70-2982, 3: Designing Security for a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network

In addition to the exams Auger282 listed you also need to take an elective exam from the list on the MS Site (there are 10 to choose from).

The MS web site says MCSA 2000 would count as an elective to MCSE 2003.

I was hoping my MCDST would count as an elective since it does for MCSA....

Oh well these tests arent to drastically hard.

What page are you looking at that says that the MCSA 2000 count's as an elective to the MCSE 2003?

Here is the URL for upgrading from MCSA 2003 to MCSE 2003
From what I'm seeing you can't go directly from MCSA 2000 to MCSE 2003. You need to go to MCSA 2003 or MCSE 2000 first.

Towards the bottom it says this...

As an alternative to the electives listed above, these Microsoft certifications may be substituted for an MCSE elective:

Microsoft Certifications
MCSA on Microsoft Windows 2000
MCSE on Microsoft Windows 2000
MCSE on Microsoft Windows NT 4.05

:)

oh, ok. I apparently wasn't looking far enough down to see it. I stopped scrolling down to the electives a while ago once I released that my SQL exam counted as my MCSE and my MCSA elective.

That'll teach me to not read the entire page hugh. :)

hello there,

MCDST counts towards MCSA 2003.

have a look at ms website, there is an upgrade path.

MCSA 2003 +293+294+297+298 = MCSE 2003

thats the path I have just done yesterday.

Regards,

Mike

I cant find anywhere on the MS Site about the MCSA 2003 counting as an elective towards the MCSE 2003. Can you point me to where it actually says that? The only thing I see is the MCSA 2000 counts as an elective... Which is kind of strange you would think that the MCSA 2003 should also count.

MCP/MCDST

Ahhh I see what your saying but it doesnt really necessarily count the MCDST still though. I would still be taking an additional Elective but at least once I get the MCSA then its only 4 more tests. I thought it would be 5 more. :)

just to let you know "theese test aren't to drastically hard" there is a day and night difference between the 270 level test and the 290 level test the 290 level test for the mcse 2003 are extremeley hard compared to anything else i have test for.

study study study!!!

and good luck
